Find out the Different Types of Sewer Pipes According to Your Application

The sewer pipe is the system used to collect and transport industrial and residential waste away. Sewer pipes have been used for a long time, and for this reason, they have been improved with new technological materials, which allow an even greater use.

Faced with so many options, the question always arises: what is the best type of material? The truth is that there is not the best for all cases, in general. To make the correct choice, it is necessary to take into account some criteria, as each material is indicated for a different situation.

Types of sewer pipes

The main materials used for the manufacture of pipes and connections for sewage are: cast iron, plastic, steel, concrete and ceramic.

Ceramics

The ceramic tubes are used in special situations, because as it is a more fragile material, it still requires great care in transport and handling. The most suitable ceramic pipes are called Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide. They are resistant to chemicals, heat and prevent the action of bacteria.

Cast iron

It is a material that resists large loads and, therefore, it is more used in situations where the pipe is exposed, or is installed at a small depth. It is also quite resistant to internal pressures, presenting a good durability.

Plastic

Plastic pipes are the most common and can be found in three types: PVC, PRFV and HDPE. Among them, the best known is PVC, used in most civil constructions. It is resistant to internal and external pressures, withstanding temperatures up to 60 °C. It has good durability, with a minimum useful life of 50 years.

Steel

Because it is an extremely resistant material, the pipes of this material are used in situations where high internal and external resistance is required. In addition, steel pipes are highly resistant to mechanical shocks. However, it is not a good option for situations exposed to high pressures or that require a very large diameter.
